Ms Christine Young spent the weekend of the 9th and 10th April running a series of workshops for students of Southern ITF Taekwon-Do.

Everyone who participated had a terrific time and gained some very useful skills. The workshops were well attended and covered many skills including competition sparring, special kicking techniques, self defence for women and a black belt patterns class.

The self defence workshop focused on a number of scenarios and situations that people may be confronted with in everyday life. These included being harassed on a bus, being confronted by someone while walking down a street, drunken people, crossing a car park etc. as well as at home. The session looked at a variety of different ways of avoiding, diffusing the situation and how to take control in such a situation if it was necessary. Wayne and Erik took on the role as the attackers and were well padded as the situations were played out as realistically as possible. The variety of scenarios meant that a range of defensive methods had to be employed to diffuse the situation and to recognise when one was in danger or not. All participants had a great time and learned a range of methods in all situations. The two attackers were also thanked for their perseverance.

Ms Young was interviewed by the Local Television station and stated that she

was very pleased with the standard of the participants and enjoyed her time in Tasmania.
